All members of EUI have access to NewsGuard, a system that rates news and information websites.
How NewsGuard works
A dedicated team of trained journalists evaluates thousands of news and information websites, using journalistic standards. They create Nutrition Label reviews that break down the ratings for each site in an easy-to-understand way. These Nutrition labels share helpful information about the site’s ownership, funding sources, editorial practices, and history, making it simpler for you to know where your news comes from.
NewsGuard is a browser extension that functions within your internet browser while you search for news and information online. The rating process is applied consistently to all websites, regardless of their topic, tone, or political bias. Experienced editors review and fact-check the ratings. Each site receives a trust score and reliability rating on a scale of 0 to 100, which is periodically updated based on nine journalistic criteria.
Using the NewsGuard extension
NewsGuard icons are displayed in the top right corner of websites that have been rated by NewsGuard. These icons also appear in search results and social media feeds alongside links. Hover over the icon to view the site’s rating, then click on it to read the complete Nutrition Label.
