Impact Challenge: Day 2 – Create a Google Scholar profile
Welcome to day 2 of the Impact Challenge! Today we ask you to create a profile in Google Scholar to track your citations.
What is Google Scholar?
Google Scholar is the Google initiative to track and index research publications globally and across all disciplines. Similar to the Google main search engine, Google Scholar provides means to search and find documents on the web (indexing both their metadata descriptions and full text), but the results are constrained to scholarly literature.
Why create a Google Scholar profile?
Google Scholar allows academic authors to create a Google Scholar profile. Once a profile is set up, Google Scholar will populate it automatically with all the publications deemed to be yours (and any profile owner can then check whether those are accurate and make the appropriate adjustments). Even more important, along with your publications you will be able to track their citations. If you wonder about where you are being cited (and by whom), setting up a free Google Scholar profile can be a helpful place to start. Through your profile you can also set up alerts to be notified when new citations are included or when new research in your domain is published.
How to create a profile with Google Scholar
- Go to https://scholar.google.com/
- Click “My profile” in the top left corner and log in to Google (you need a Google account to create your profile, if you do not have a Google account you can follow the instructions on the login page to create one).
- Fill in your full name, affiliation, research interests, and, optionally, your personal page.
- You will have than to verify your affiliation through your EUI email.
