Malta’s rich history may inspire you to search for new connections to your project. Researcher Gabriel Farrugia and alumnus Matthias Ebejer approached scholars and academic institutions based in Malta to donate publications that could eventually form the nucleus of a ‘Melitensia’ collection at the EUI Library. In total, Maltese entities and individual scholars contributed a total of 30 books and three journal titles, which are being processed and will soon be available on the library catalogue.

The contributors include none other than the National Library of Malta, with a donation of monographs on the political and social history of the island. These works could be useful to any researchers interested in the formation of a Mediterranean island-state, from its grassroots in the eighteenth century to readings on contemporary notions of nationalism and post-colonial identity.

Adding to these is another collection donated by Fondationi Patrimonju Malti (FPM), who, for the past decades, has been publishing a series of studies on history, archaeology, architecture and art. FPM contributed to this initiative by donating an almost complete run of their series ‘Treasures of Malta’, which, as the name implies, contains scholarly articles on singular items of interest for researchers of micro-histories and the history of material culture.

A special thanks goes also to the National Archives of Malta, the Mdina Cathedral Archives and the Malta University Historical Society, who all contributed to kick-starting this project. We truly hope that this collection will continue to grow in quantity whilst offering researchers across all departments a valuable source of inspiration and information throughout their PhD projects.
