Reading time: 4 min.

The EUI Library joins the international celebration of Open Access Week 2026, dedicated this year to the theme The Cost of Knowledge.

Open Access Week offers an opportunity to reflect on how research is published, shared and made accessible, as well as the economic and institutional challenges surrounding scholarly communication.

Throughout the week, the EUI Library invites researchers and members of the EUI community to discover Open Access publications, learn more about publishing opportunities and participate in events exploring the future of Open Science.

Discover Open Access at the EUI Library

Can We Reimagine Scholarly Communication?

Monday 19 October 2026 | 14:00–16:00 CEST (13:00–15:00 BST) | Online workshop

Hosted by: LSE Open Research and CIVICA

What might scholarly books look like beyond traditional publishing formats?

This interactive workshop introduces experimental and computational approaches to academic publishing, particularly in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Janneke Adema (Coventry University) and Simon Worthington (Open Science Lab, TIB) will explore innovative publishing practices and introduce the Experimental Publishing Compendium, a resource for researchers, publishers, librarians and others interested in rethinking the form and function of scholarly books.

Drawing on the COPIM and Open Book Futures projects, the workshop will also introduce computational publishing initiatives. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the creation of a Linked Open Exhibition catalogue using tools developed through NFDI4Culture.
