Love Data Week 2022

The EUI Library’s 7th annual Love Data Week begins on Monday, the 14th of February with an Info-Desk in the lower loggia of the Badia Fiesolana, from 12:00 to 15:00 – to raise awareness of data discovery; data use and protection; and data preservation and sharing. The Library assists EUI members throughout the research data lifecycle and provides advice on data management plans (DMPs); data inputs and quality control; database copyright and protection, and the preparation of datasets for reposit in the EUI research repository, Cadmus. Library Data Resources: Data Protection and Ethical Use

At a time when the EUI Library is providing unprecedented off-campus access to data resources – we remind users of their obligations regarding data protection and ethical use. EUI users may not distribute, or allow any other party to have access to data which is provided under Library license. Special terms and conditions apply to the use of micro-socioeconomic and qualitative data. This reflects the sensitive nature of observations about human subjects, families and households. Such terms and conditions apply to (i) data hosted by the Library for EUI members (ii) data gathered and used during research projects, and (iii) data provided directly to EUI members under third-party license. Terms and conditions of access and use for all datasets hosted by the Library, are provided in the ‘full details’ section of the individual resource guides in the Library’s Data Portal. Access to, and use of, databases provided by the EUI Library are subject to contractual license agreements and copyright terms. Full details are on the Library’s Terms and Conditions page. [ctd.]

Google Dataset Search (beta) now live

Google launched a new search tool for open data on 5 September. Google Dataset Search (beta) helps find open datasets and data series – by searching data repositories worldwide. The new resource searches both open public data repositories (governments; international organisations) and open research data repositories (universities, research institutions). Full details of the new search tool are in the Google Blog and this video. Dataset Search is developed by Google’s AI research division. For access to licensed, statistical datasets at the EUI, visit the Library’s Data Portal.

New Eurostat Micro Data Access Application Procedure

Eurostat has launched a new data access application procedure for micro data. From January 2017, EUI members should use the new Microdata Access Worlkflow Tool – which requires Principal Investigators to register via the EU Login authentication service.

The EUI Researcher – or Principal Investigator in a research team – should create an EU Login for the project application. (It is not necessary for all members of a research team to have a login.)
