From 7 to 9 April, the European University Institute (EUI) will host the 25th Fiesole Retreat. Over 100 international scholarly communication and information experts have registered for this unique library and information industry event.
This event provides a platform for open dialogue, active participation, and meaningful partnerships. It brings together library professionals, scholars, and industry experts to engage in insightful discussions on critical topics such as the impact of artificial intelligence, innovations in scholarly communication, the evolving role of the humanities, the influence of metrics in academia and publishing, and the importance of building equitable partnerships in knowledge development. Through a series of thought-provoking panels and interactive sessions, participants will explore best practices and emerging trends that will shape the future of academic libraries and the scholarly publishing industry.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Learning from the Past, Informing the Future’. The three-day program includes a pre-conference session titled ‘AI and Libraries – Innovating for the Future’, chaired by EUI Library Director Pep Torn-Poch. During this session, the panel will explore a variety of topics, including AI literacy education, the potential of generative AI for creating collection management and development tools, the implications of AI for creative writing, and areas of collaboration between publishers and libraries in the context of AI disruption.
Patrizia Nanz, President of the EUI, will open the conference on the afternoon of Day One. Panels and sessions during the conference will feature topics such as Reinventing Scholarly Publishing: Rewarding Open Science Practice; Biodiversity at the Margins: Spaces of Innovation in Scholarly Communication; and Promoting Inclusivity; and Inclusivity in Knowledge Development: a Strategic Imperative.
