SPS Summer Academy 2022

After the successful past editions, the Department of Political and Social Sciences (SPS) at the European University Institute (EUI) is launching the third edition of the SPS Summer Academy on (In)equality, Democracy and Solidarity in Europe.

Date: 5-9 September 2022 at the European University Institute, Florence, Italy.

The EUI is an exceptionally vibrant space of interdisciplinary academic activities, where a plethora of seminars, workshops, public lectures, book launches, thesis defenses, and high-level workshops, are staged each and every week throughout the academic year.

The theme of our Summer Academy will be dedicated to the very topical issue of (In)equality, Democracy and Solidarity.

The Summer Academy aims at giving some twenty-five selected Master’s students the opportunity to experience the EUI’s academic and social life at first hand. This one-week full-immersion in the EUI’s world will allow the participants to take part in plenary lectures and discuss cutting-edge research currently undertaken at the Political and Social Sciences Department (SPS). Participants will also have the opportunity to present their work and/or ideas and to discuss them with leading scholars in the field, and equally enthusiastic peers.

The schedule of the Summer Academy will be organised and divided as follows: The Summer Academy consists of lectures by the SPS professors, a guided tour to visit the city of Florence, two workshops held by postdoctoral fellows, as well as participation in the keynote by Professor Jeffrey Checkel (SPS-EUI). Find out more about the programme. On the last day all interested participants will get a chance to have a presentation of the PhD programme at the EUI.

The participation at the SPS Summer Academy 2022 is limited to a maximum of 25 candidates. The Summer School will be free of charge, and all the participants can claim reimbursement of their travel and accommodation expenses up to € 400 in total.

If you are a Master’s student or have recently obtained your MA, and are interested in this year’s topic, check your eligibility criteria and apply to the SPS Summer Academy.

We especially encourage students from Eastern Europe and students from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply.

Please be kindly informed that the participation at the SPS Summer Academy does not award credits.
